Welcome

According to research, adolescents and children's mental health has been in crisis for almost a decade. The pandemic, hardship, emotional instability, trauma, and rising technology use are all factors influencing this trend.

About

Mental Health & Well-being Coach Vs Counsellor Vs Therapist

Approaches from all of the above are personal to each individual and tailored to someone's specific needs.

Counselling often goes into detail on past history and emotions, working through these thoughts to bring an individual back to the present time. This can be very useful in terms of addressing a young persons trauma.

Many young people that I have worked with over the years are hesitant or not ready to reflect upon the past. Coaching tends to focus on the present and is future facing, proactively working on resilience, self-esteem and personal goal setting. This reflection enables young people to look at difficult solutions and develop skills and coping strategies to better deal with day to day life.

Coaching is individual and can cover a range of subjects:

  • Self-esteem

  • Confidence building

  • Social interaction

  • Stress management

  • Challenging negative thoughts and beliefs

  • Friendships

  • Anxiety

  • School problems

  • Family difficulties

  • Parent separation

  • Motivation and listening skills

  • Building resilience

Mission

Personal mental health coaching does not involve treating complex clinical problems but aims to boost a person’s mental health by helping them build emotional tools for relationship problems, educational stress, peer issues and changing thinking patterns.  My aim is to offer coaching as an early intervention strategy. Helping to support young people when struggling.

We are able to offer support for young people awaiting more intensive interventions- I.e.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAHMS). They may be on a current waiting list, or not meeting CAHMS thresholds for support.

"Honestly I could not recommend Charlene more highly. After several years of CAHMS private counselling, social workers, mash, several schools, SDH and police involvement. My daughters have found someone to trust, who listens. I believe my daughter opened up more in her first sessions then ever before. I truly value the support, strategies and space Charlene gives my teenage daughters. My only regret is that I didn't find her sooner. I haven't seen any box ticking which is so refreshing. We sat and watched a film together this week, which was a massive breakthrough."
